You would have heard about 4P’s of marketing. But here is an innovative thinker who talks about 4 C's of online marketing. Mr. Naveen Luthra, Chief Marketing Officer at Diginatives Content Solutions Pvt Ltd visited Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi to give lecture on “Introduction to Online Marketing”.
Mr. Naveen Luthra talked about advantages and disadvantages of online marketing; types of online marketing; types of online advertising; targeting methods; how to develop a good online advertisement; pricing of online advertisements; various trends in the industry and challenges for marketers.
Traceability, targeting, low entry level costs, economical, greater range, simple updating, speed and direct response are few of the advantages of online marketing. Among the disadvantages, notable factors are comparatively limited market and advertising overload. Online advertising has various types like text ads, display ads; pop up ads, flash ads, interstitial ads, email ads, onsite sponsorship and advertorials. Primary targeting methods are contextual targeting, behavioral targeting and geo targeting. Regarding pricing of online advertisement, Mr. Naveen Luthra talked about 4 C’s – Cost per impression, Cost per click, Cost per acquisition and Cost per lead.
Learning about a concept that is coming of the age in India from an industry expert was really thought provoking for DMS students. It will surely help the people who want to pursue their career in marketing and advertising domain.
Pfizer Innovation B-PLAN Competition at DMS, IIT Delhi - 23nd April, 2010
Department of Management Studies (DMS), IIT Delhi, in collaboration with Pfizer organized a B-plan competition ’Pfizer Innovation Prize’ open for all IIT students on 23 April 2010. Topic of the business plan was Electronic Commerce Applications in Health Care/Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical Industry. Participants included students from various departments of IIT Delhi. Four teams were shortlisted for presenting their plan out of several entries.
The competition was won by Team Ambrosia which comprised of B. Dhanwanthari Tej, Jayant Raghavan, Harshawardhana Reddy, Mansi Shivnani, Sonal Bansal and Vaibhav Varshney. The winning team was awarded US$ 3,000.00 and a letter of recommendation from Prof. Stan Kachnowski, HIT Lab, New York.
Guest Lecture by Mr. Ponnurangam Kumaraguru - 22nd April, 2010
DMS, IIT Delhi not only see people from industry coming and illuminating the best of brains in country but also experts in their areas from different colleges across the globe coming and sharing their knowledge with the students.
On Thursday 22 of April DMS Fraternity saw an expert on Information Security coming and giving guest lecture on his expertise. Mr. Ponnurangam Kumaraguru, who is a faculty at IIIT Delhi and did his PhD in Computation, Organization and Society from Carnegie Mellon University, came to interact with the students here. His anti-phishing research work at Carnegie Mellon University has contributed in creating a start-up company, Wombat Security Technologies and he is the Program Co-chair for CEAS 2010.
He gave exhaustive and enriching guest lecture on Cyber Crime and Usable Privacy & Security. He also talked about cross-cultural privacy issues (specifically in the third world countries like India) and human computer interaction. He also talked about challenges of web security while sharing experiences of self and various teams he worked with in the domain of Information Security.
Guest Lecture by Mr. Ajit Jr - 21st April, 2010
Guest Lectures is a unique feature of pedagogy at DMS, IIT-Delhi. Last Wednesday on 21 st of April, 2010 Mr. Ajit Jr (UK Based Senior IT Consultant) visited DMS, IIT-Delhi to speak on strategic change issues. He spoke on a techno-commercial point of view with emphasis on e-environment having impact as an agent of strategic change, continuously transforming, shaping and redefining e-environment and an impact on individual and business. Business world has its tentacles spread across the world with its non-physical offering. He spoke on a value-centric wealth generated as a part of e-businesses. Strategic innovations, innovative changes and being abreast of competitions are core of moving ahead especially in e-business.
He shared his personal experiences talking about knowledge intensive business services (KIBS). He gave an example from industry taking example of companies from various sectors, talking about the Napster phenomenon in music industry; Northern Rock Bank which functions on the web space in Banking Industry; SOTC in Travel & Tourism Industry which gives personalized offering after doing psychographic and demographic profiling of individuals.
Guest Lecture by Swami Bodhananda - 20th April, 2010
On 20th April, we had some spiritual and leadership talk by swami Bodhananda. He addressed students about leadership, what actual leadership is, and who are the real leaders. He further stressed on students like us who are studying in premier institutes, and said that you are the future leaders. India is poised to become largest economy in coming decades. But do as an Indian, we share that dream? Are we given proper training? Though India has youngest population compared to other developed nations, the youngsters in states like Jharkhand, UP, Orissa, Bihar is pathetic, and they can't even contribute towards development. Is this the real development?
He further talked about the current leaders in various fields like politics, business, and social reformers and said that today we are missing right leaders. Even Obama has become a disappointment. Leaders emerge when there is crisis and in today's world there are many crises. A leader should have a vision and a role.
He further talked about the real development and also how it takes place. He also referred to the bottom of a pyramid theory by CK Prahlad. And in the end he concluded by wishing luck to everyone and that all become true leaders in future

Mr. Akash Jain visited Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi to give lecture on “Technology Strategy as a key component of corporate strategy.” Mr. Akashjain has rich experience of 22 years in Business Technology Leadership. He has held posts of CTO, Reliance Finance and CEO, MPact. Mr Jain talked about various models of corporate strategy and technology strategy, new emerging trends, and various issues that involve deficiency of strategies. Real life cases of implementation of strategies in various business sectors gave immense insights to students in understanding the growth drive through innovation and transformation.

Mr. Manvinder Singh Banga visited IIT Delhi to share his experience as an Industry expert. Mr. Manvinder Singh Banga is one of the distinguished alumni of IIT Delhi. He is President Foods, Home and Personal Care (HPC), Unilever. Mr. Banga is in India to receive the Padma Bhushan Award. Mr. Banga shared various instances about his life. He talked about various managerial and leadership aspects and also need of thinking about environment and global warming. The session was very interactive and thought provoking which will surely help in real life in future.
Guest lecture by Mr. Navin Rao - 10th April 2010
Mr. Navin Rao, HR Operations Manager, IKEA trading corporation, South Asia visited Department of Management Studies, IIT-Delhi to interact with students and gave them the insight as how the biggest furniture retail mart works. He talked about the IKEA culture made of its unique mission, vision and value systems. In his talk he described the IKEA diamond with customer needs at one end and relation with suppliers at the other. Answering to the interactive and enthusiastic audience he spoke about how even after being the big consumer of wood, IKEA maintains the eco-balance between need and environment; about IKEA's strategy of entering Indian market and about several other things.
Media Conclave 2010
Media is the window through which outer world peeps into the working of an organization. It is also the window through which one looks outside and waves hand to make a new relationship. Media & Public Relations Committee of Department of Management Studies, Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi every year on the last eve of its Business Festival-‘Parivartan’ organizes Media Conclave. Media Conclave has been attracting huge attention of people from various spheres be it Corporate houses, advertising agencies or Media houses in print, television or online form. Every year eminent spokesperson comes together to discuss about the currently relevant role of Media in Business.
This year the theme on which discussion took place was “Commercialization of media: what is the priority: Business or Ethics?”

India Japan Collaborative Seminar 2009 at DMS

Believing in the same, Department of Management Studies under the able guidance of Dr. Surendra S. Yadav & Dr. Kiran Momaya organised the India-Japan Collaborative Seminar on 31st October 2009 to explore the dynamics of Indo Japanese ties in the current scenario and how both the nations can evolve a winning strategy in face of global and regional challenges. Key objective of the seminar is to evolve new approaches to India-Japan collaboration by learning from experiences of veterans as well emerging reality from projects of young researchers. The event saw an enthusiastic response from students of DMS who took up the opportunity to interact with Japanese delegates and students with an open hand. The event saw a host of Japanese bigwigs including H. E. Hideaki Domichi, Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. N. Noguchi from Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), Mr. Takeshi Yoshida from New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization(NEDO), Mr. Nakajima from Mitsui & Co. India Pvt., Ltd. and Mr. Mayur Shah from Mizuho Corporate Bank Ltd., Delhi. The students from Rikkyo University, Japan and their Indian counterparts presented interesting caselets on the interaction between Japanese and Indian markets and how to evolve strategies for the best interests of both nations. The Japanese team carried the day through their precise and crisp presentation but after being thoroughly challenged by teams from DMS. The event ended with interaction between students from both sides and with a promise to meet again next year!
Guest Lecture by Prof. Steven T. Walsh
Prof. Steven T. Walsh from Anderson School of Management visited DMS to give lecture about technology management. Prof Walsh is director of Technological Entrepreneurship Program and co-director of Management of Technology Program at Anderson School of Management, University of New Mexico. He is also area editor of Technovation and JM3. Prof. Walsh gave insights about technology management, strategy and innovation in today’s world.
BPO Business and Franchise Opportunity in India
India has for long led the BPO race globally and kept its title unchallenged so far and promises to rush head. Mr. Jagannadham Thunuguntla visited DMS to give guest lecture about private equity business. Mr. Jagannadham Thunuguntla is equity head at SMC Capitals Ltd. Mr. Jagannadham Thunuguntla gave his valuable insights about private equity business in India. He also talked about stages of capital raising for a company and various instruments to raise funds for a company. To learn about equity market from an industry expert was very insightful. Mr. Jagannadham gave good understanding of the industry that is going to be very helpful for future finance managers.
